Sprouts Program

Water Table Group
Developing Relationships

Hilltop's Sprouts program meets three consecutive days per week on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. While the Sprouts program is welcoming and appropriate for all children between the ages of 2 years 9 months and 6 years old, the majority of children in this program have had previous preschool experience.

The Sprouts program continues to develop relationships, explorations and project work. Children in this program have developed longer attention spans and can engage in small or large groups that are developmentally appropriate.

Program Goals

Reading
Exploring Words

The primary goal of the Sprouts program is to become co-learners and/or co-researchers while building self-esteem and fostering healthy relationships. As the children begin to ask questions, the teachers guide the group to thought-promoting questions to further learning or gain understanding of a topic. While children are in this program, they gain knowledge of how to find answers to some of their questions, explore possible solutions, hypothesize and engage in direct interaction with what is relevant to him/her. In a social setting, children experience what it means to be a part of a group, how to solve a problem and how to communicate successfully. Children will grow, develop and gain a better understanding of themselves and the world around them.

How it Happens

In the Sprouts program, everything happens through play and the interests of the children. Children in this program will build upon their experiences and previous knowledge as well as observe, explore, discover, wonder and manipulate new materials in the environment. New art materials and mediums will be introduced through the art studio. The teacher works with the children and materials as she guides them through their expanding base of knowledge.
